Description
Palm Springs has been a desert vacation oasis for nearly a century and remains the ultimate posh desert spa in pop culture. Film stars put Palm Springs on the map as a destination for weekend getaways. In the postwar era, it became a centerpiece for golfers and a second home for such Hollywood icons as Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Over the years, postcards portraying Palm Springs have concentrated on its hotels, spas, golf courses, celebrities, and other aspects that have fed the national reputation of the city and its environs as a playground for the rich and famous.

Summary: "Postcard History left me wanting more"
The text accompanying the postcards is very light on information. The author didn't bother with much research and there was certainly more story to be told. I was also disappointed that the reproductions were all black and white. The book was slapped together cheap but I'd probably still buy it because the images are a lot of fun anyway.

Summary: "Palm Springs Busy Years"
I have recently visited Palm Springs, 5 times in 3 years and in walks
down Palm Canyon Drive and the down town core I had wanted to see what
it looked like years ago when a lot of Movie Stars and Entertainers made it their home.
Well I heard of the Book out "Palm Springs in Vintage Postcards", I found the book at the Palm Springs Library and a quick viewing of same told me I had to have it.
The local Book store did not have it thus when I got back to Calgary I found and ordered on Amazon.
I highly recommend this Book,to those people who like myself after walking past numerous vacant lots on Palm Canyon Dive, wonder what use to be here, plus other buildings now in rather poor state.
In closing I stayed close to The Riviera Hotel, it is now closed down it was great to see pictures of it in its glory-Frank and friends sang there.
Thanks to Judy Artunian & Mike Oldham for produing this great gift of the past.
